Eye popping!

Hey Vixens!
The question for today is What colors should I wear on my eyes to make them stand out? Your answer is here! Ok let's start with this.... everyone LOVES a smokey eye me being its #1 fan! Maybe you adore a smokey eye but don't wear a lot of makeup so the thought of blacking out your eyes is terrifying (which is understood). Well you don't have to worry because a modern day smokey eye has changed tremendously! More and more you see a smokey eye using different colors like silvers, purples, pinks etc. Any color out there will work! This is a great breakthrough and will help even the most timid to be able to ease into a sexy sultry eye. Now the key to finding what color works best for you. Grab a mirror and some light (natural light preferred but not necessary). Look at the color right around your pupil. Mine happens to be yellow gold so yellows or golds tend to make my eyes really stand out. Does this means I have to put yellow eyeshadow all over just to make my eyes stand out? No! I try to incorporate a little gold into my eyeshadow. Maybe a gold on the lid and some browns in the crease (Video coming soon). Or try using a liner or a bit of shadow right below your lower lash lines. This little hint of color has amazing effects on the eyes! I personally keep my shadows fun but always use black eyeliner. If you are affraid of black eyeliner there are TONs of options these days for eyeliners. Check your favorite makeup line for a variety of fun colors (www.Urbandecay.com www.Makeupforever.com www.Sephora.com). Do you have super dark eyes? Try mixing up your look by replacing your black eyeliner with a purple or blue. Purples or blues work great with brown or dark eyes. Just using a hint of the color will really make a difference! Here are a few of my favorite options for the following eye colors. However you should have fun and find what works best for you!
Blue eyes- golds, plums, black, pinks.
Green or hazel eyes- purples, black, silvers, browns.
Brown or black eyes- dark blues, purples, plums.
Now just remember there are no rules in makeup! Don't be affraid to be sultry! Line those eyes and knock em dead! xoxoxox

Longer lasting lip color!!!

Hey Vixens!!!
Want longer lasting lip color? There are a few options we have here. I see every day on the market about 24 hour lip colors, Long lasting lip color etc. Do they work? For the most part yes they do! However... in my opinion... I usually never truly like the color (For some reason they never seem the same) they seem to always (in my experience) give a grey hue. Anyway beyond all of that they make your lips like the Sahara Desert!! I don't know about you but I hate dry lips!!! So here I am with your solution.... My favorite method to use for longer lasting lip color is so simple it's ridiculous! Let me tell you this... I hardly ever use lipstick! Am I against it? No! Lipstick is great for so many purposes just not for long lasting options. Unless of course you never eat or talk or use your mouth in general (sounds dirty but you know what you I mean). So here is my #1 favorite tip... (It is incredible how easy it is). My alternative to lipstick is lip liner and chapstick. So easy! I know but it works miracles! Line your lips with your favorite lip liner (My favorite lip liners are from NYX and prestige and usually never cost over $2.00 a lip liner making them a must have! I usually buy them at least 10 at a time). Application... Line your lips with your favorite lip color, After lining your lips smudge the color inward keeping the palest part of the lip in the middle (See previous blog on poutier lips). Apply chapstick to add moisture and Voila! Long lasting lip color! I personally live by this rule on a daily basis. I never have to re apply! Tip: Have a hot date? Try a flavored chapstick and really impress your date! Won't rub off and doesn't feel cakey to your date. Works like a charm every time! Gloss lover? Just apply to the middle of your lips... It adds a super hot shine while adding the pouty lips effect. Also if only added to the middle of the lips it lessens your chances of lip color wearing off or smudging.
My 2nd option Lip stains. This is my theory on lip stains. They are fantastic for the "no makeup" people out there. Lip stains are like the tinted moisturizers of the lip world (See previous face of base blog). Lip stains are ideal for people who wear very minimal amounts of makeup but want a hint of color to their lips. These options are great! However, they also seem to dry out the lips and you never really know what the color will look like (In my experience the brighter the color the better the stain looks). These really do work but I do suggest bringing a chapstick or lip gloss a long since they do have a drying effect on the lips. (Check out Mac lip stain and Cover girl outlast lip stain).
Tip: Have a hot date? Plan on making out? (Hey it happens). Apply Lip stain, Then apply lip liner and chapstick. Results are... Look smoking hot on your date, then after a hot make out session the lip liner and chap stick wear out (trust me he/she wont realize you are wearing anything) you will be left with the hottest naturally flushed look to your lips!!! You will thank me for this! and your boy/girl will think you just look hot (naturally of course). Now spread the love and smooch away!!!! Thanks! Hope this helps!!!! xoxo!

Face of Base kinda catchy huh? Ha ha!

Ok so a very basic low down on Foundations (base). Any specific inquiries will be answered in another blog. Ok here it is.....Get your pen and paper out because we are taking notes! (Wow I woke up on the extremely cheesy side of the bed this morning apparently).

CREAM- Gives maximum coverage. I don't usually recommend this type of base for daily use however... It does give maximum coverage, evens out skin tone and can also come in a stick form (which is pretty convenient for on the go). However it tends to be thick, not very breathable and gets cakier than other bases. Great for movies.
Tip: Love the coverage of cream but want a slightly more sheer coverage? Try mixing it with your primer or moisturizer for a more breathable light weight version.

LIQUID-Most commonly used base. Easy to use. Varies in coverage. Can be applied with fingers, sponge or foundation brush. I love liquid foundation because it is very versatile and there are a million varieties! It has light slip which means it usually glides on much easier than a cream but doesn't have quite as much coverage as a cream although consistency varies depending on brand. I love Makeup forever HD, lancome photogenic and believe it or not if you are on a budget I use Loreal true match on most of my clients! Gives great smooth coverage and comes in a variety of shades so I can mix and match if need be. Can be found in most drug stores and usually never costs more than $12.00 a bottle making it a must have!
Tip: Start with the most base in the middle of the face blending it outward for a natural more even all around look. Take the excess and blend down the neck onto the chest to ensure all over even coverage.

Dual Finish- May include pressed powders (Mac studio fix compact, Nars powder foundation etc). This combines some elements of cream or liquid with the matte effects of a powder. This is perfect for people who don't need or want as much coverage and works great for people on the go! May be applied with brush, sponge or puff. Some may be used wet or dry depending on the brand. Try wetting the sponge for added coverage (See Laura Mercier foundation powder or Shisedo makeup powdery foundation). These are just a few options. Dual finish is extremely convenient which I love and is fantastic for oily skin! I don't always recommend this method of base for people who tend to have dry skin unless using a liquid underneath. My favorites include Mac studio fix,Stila powder foundation and Diorskin forever.
Tip: Use dual finish over any liquid or cream foundation for a flawless finish that lasts all day (especially when using a primer as well who wants to keep re applying? I don't).

TINTED MOISTURIZERS-  are popping up every where! It is the new alternative to wearing base! Offers sheer coverage. Tinted moisturizers are a great light alternative to wearing makeup. This works perfect for the "no makeup" person. Tinted moisturizers are just that, it is a moisturizer with a touch of color to help even out skin tone and give a more flawless version of yourself! These are great for people with perfect skin who just need a tiny bit of color for warmth or evening out skin tone. Great for dry skin! Almost every brand out there now has their version of the tinted moisturizer so try what works best for you (Sephora.com, Covergirl.com etc). I personally ADORE this breakthrough in makeup. It's so easy to use. Apply like you would any moisturizer. Top with powder or dual finish for a very natural, and beautiful you. I don't recommend this method for people wanting or needing more coverage unless finishing off with a dual finish on top.
Tip: Love the way tinted moisturizer feels but want more coverage in trouble areas? Try using a concealer or cream in junction with your tinted moisturizer (under eyes, redness, pimples, t-zone) this gives coverage where needed while still looking natural and fresh. Great for combination skin.

So this pretty much sums up everything you need to know about base. Remember to prep your skin (See previous blog) and have fun with it! Experiment and find what you like. Just remember there are no rules with makeup (or at least strict ones) it is what you make it. So I hope this helps! Enjoy!!!

Prepping for flawless foundation

Hey guys! Sorry my computer was acting up for a while but we are back in action! People ask me all of the time about foundations. The first thing you need to know about foundations is that it definitely varies depending on skin type. I can agree that having a flawless face and great complexion (or at least just look that way) is extremely important in completing a great look. Now a days they come in so many different forms it is hard to keep track and is often times confusing. I am here to help! First off... Make sure your skin is clean and moisturized! There is no worse combination than dry skin and rough patches showing through your makeup. I often hear people say "I don't use lotion because my skin is oily" STOP right there! There is nothing more important when it comes to your skin than moisturizing. They make a wide arrangement of oil control lotions so check them out (Sephora.com) or check your local drug store and no more excuses! I am obsessed with Cosmedicine medi matte oil control. Heaven! After your skin is clean and moisturized I apply a primer. My personal favorites include Smashbox artificial light, Bare Escentuals prime time and Lancome La base pro. There are about a million more out there so I suggest try them all until you find the one you like best! What are your favorites? Let me know. Kristinamakeup@gmail.com or leave a comment. The purpose for a primer is that it smooths out uneven surfaces (wrinkles, large pores, scars etc) and preps the skin for your foundation to have a perfect canvas to work with. It is a perfect barrier or bridge between your skin and foundation thus keeping your makeup staying fresher for longer periods of time. I personally try not to leave home without it! and you shouldn't either! Now you are ready to apply foundation..... Next... applying foundation for various skin types...Check back tomorrow xoxo Thanks!
